FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

1. How do I get involved?

There’s a couple of ways. The first way is to come to our general meetings on Mondays at 5:00 pm in UC-2002 during the fall and winter months. The other way is to contact the person who is responsible for the aspect of the paper you’re interested in helping out with. Our e-mails are listed on our contact page.

Over the summer months, email chief@themuse.ca to learn more about getting involved.

2. I don’t know what to write about. Will you guys train me?

We all started out knowing little about journalism, so don’t be intimidated. At the Muse your peers will train you. The Muse is a part of a national student newspaper co-operative called Canadian University Press (CUP), which offers extensive resources for new volunteers. The Muse sends some of its staff and volunteers to CUP’s professional development conferences free of charge two times a year.

3. Will I get paid as a volunteer?

Unfortunately, no. Because we’re supported by advertising and a small student media levy, the Muse doesn’t have the budget to pay on a per article or photo basis. But our best volunteers often become staffers, so there’s hope.

4. Do Muse staffers get paid?

Yes. The Muse employs about 11 staff in areas from business to editing to photography. All jobs are reposted every winter semester.

5. How old is the Muse? Where did it come from?
