International Student Advising at MUN hopes the new multiculturalism resources will benefit student immigrants.
New multiculturalism resources launched

The provincial government has officially launched new online resources for prospective immigrants and newcomers through the Office of Immigration and Multiculturalism.
The launch, which took place on March 25, revealed the development of a website as part of the “Going to Canada” web portal initiative, a federally funded national initiative aimed at enhancing Canadian web resources and aiding immigrants.
“The main objective of this initiative is to make accurate, current, relevant, and consistent resources available online for people who want to move here from other countries,” said Susan Sullivan, Minister of Human Resources, Labour and Employment.
“We will enhance our ability to attract and retain new Canadians, which in turn will help address demographic and labour challenges that we foresee in the coming years.”
The Department of Human Resources, Labour and Employment has worked in collaboration with Citizenship and Immigration Canada to co-ordinate the provincial immigration website, as well as several municipal websites through the “Going to Canada” web portal initiative.
“I hope this new website will assist both Newfoundland and Labrador and Canada to meet our immigration goals and help newcomers settle in the province,” said Jason Kenney, Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism.
The new online resources are one of several projects by the Office of Immigration and Multiculturalism to attract and retain immigrants to the province.
The comprehensive nature of the site will benefit MUN students. It provides information about life after the immigration process is complete.
“This website will provide general information about the process of becoming a permanent resident, and with further development, it could be a great resource to newcomers to Newfoundland and Labrador,” said Teeba Alsafar of the International Student Advising Office at MUN.
“It is very young right now, I am looking forward to seeing how many students benefit from it.”
