Weezer made me wish I was an awkward über-nerd with no social skills. One of the reasons I love them is probably because I was and somehow kind of always will be.
Words work better in my head than they do when I say them out loud and I can only hope that Rivers Cuomo is the same way. They called the album Raditude which insults the buyer and baits them at the same time.
Cuomo can make all the other rock stars look like amateurs dabbling in a weekend guitar camp. The album is chock-full of cheesy goodness such as the geek-love song, “(If You’re Wondering If I Want You To) I Want You To,” which almost threatens to turn into a Strokes song at any minute.
They team up with, who else, but Lil’ Wayne and Jermaine Dupri on the hilarious club anthem, “Can’t Stop Partying” which works just as well as anything by Usher or Chris Brown can come up with.
It’s worth getting the album just to hear Lil Wayne say, “Okay bitches, this is Weezer and Weezy” before Cuomo joins in with the sing-along chorus of, “I can’t stop partying, I gotta have a lotta pretty girls around me.” It just reveals how silly and fake just about any club anthem actually is because they all just provide different variations of what Cuomo just said.
Weezer goes into dance pop category like they almost did on “Buddy Holly” on this new track, “I’m Your Daddy” with lyrics like “I try my best to moonwalk on the wall.” Who among us have not dreamed of being able to finally do that?
