Wilkins Named Subway Athlete of the Week

Volleyball player Sasha Wilkins has been named the Memorial University Subway athlete of the week for the week ending Nov. 29, 2009. No male varsity athlete was in competition during the period.

Sasha Wilkins is this week’s Memorial University Subway female athlete of the week for her performance in the Sea-Hawks weekend matches against the Acadia University Axewomen. Wilkins led the Sea-Hawks with 10 kills, two service aces, and 12 digs in Saturday night’s loss to Acadia, while adding eight more kills, one ace, and 10 digs in a straight sets loss on Sunday morning. With her weekend performance Wilkins now leads Memorial averaging 2.92 kills per game, ranking her second in the AUS, while averaging 3.26 points per game, the third most by any player in the league. Wilkins was named AUS Rookie of the year in 2005-06 and is looking to become an AUS All-Star for the third season in a row in 2009-10. Wilkins and her teammates will use the Christmas break to rest and regroup before opening the second half of their season at home against the last place Université de Moncton on Friday, Jan. 8 and Saturday Jan. 9 at the Field House.
