Campus radio station CHMR will be on air when the Juno awards come to St. John’s in April. The MUN-based station hopes to have the opportunity to chat with and interview some of the greatest names in Canadian music.

CHMR 93.5 FM will be located in the Delta Hotel, main lobby, during the day of the Juno award ceremony, scheduled for April 18. According to station manager Kathy Rowe, CHMR will be setting up its mobile broadcasting studio during the day of the awards with hopes to snag any celebrities as they enter or leave their room.

Rowe says her station is planning on catching the attention of iconic passers-by with their peddle-bike-powered station, an indication that CHMR’s broadcast will be totally environmentally friendly.

As she explained, “Members from the studio will be taking turns riding the bike, which in turn will power a generator that will ultimately power the broadcast.” Rowe has been on the radio scene for more than 20 years. She is currently a full-time employee of Memorial University’s Students’ Union and regularly does voice work for other radio stations in St. John’s.

Juno week commences on April 12, with a week’s schedule of events to encompass the city and the province. Nominees for the 39th Juno awards will be made from Toronto on March 1.
